STAR Card Gives Discount Gas - Save Money on Gas
- Relatively low interest rate given to young military members.
- No interest when used at military clothing sales.
- Can be used at most AAFES-owned locations; i.e. Burger Kings on base, Shoppette, BX/PX/etc.
The most recent pro I've learned about is that AAFES gives you discounted gas when purchased from the Shoppette and placed on the STAR card. Most gas stations charge roughly a 3 cent charge when processing financial transactions. AAFES will give you the 3 cent/gallon discount automatically at the pump.
Here are some of the cons about the STAR card though:
- The card only reports negative issues frequently and positive issues less frequent. My USAA credit card reports very often on both issues (I don't have negative issues though).
- The STAR card is still a credit card and is ran by the AAFES financial institution. If there are any problems, it comes down your chain-of-command and isn't handled like a normal civil claim. We all know that in the military, we are guilty before proven innocent.
- For a credit card company that supports only the military, they are pain-in-the-butt when PCS'ing and you have to change addresses. USAA and Wells Fargo military banking handled PCS'ing very well.
I would like to know how many people really use their STAR card and what you think about it. Let me know and drop a comment.

I have only used the STAR card to purchase uniforms. They give you a $500 limit on uniforms and it is interest free. You must pay off what you charge within 6 months. Not a bad deal considering a full blues uniform costs in excess of $250.
Well, we moved to SE Europe last month and ditched the car (along with the gas and insurance costs), so the discount on gas would do us no good at this point! Although if there was ever a place that could use it, it's over here in Europe... they are selling it for obscene amounts of money!
